So glad to see you happy and flourishing, although it’s always a tough struggle to decide to leave one’s “home” in order to authentically be who you are. Perhaps one day the Covenant and other such denominations will wake up and learn to fully love and embrace all of God’s children. (I keep working on the United Methodists, but I also struggle with how much I want to keep banging my head against the wall – and I don’t have the deep history with the UMC that you have with the Covenant.) Either that, or they’ll fade into irrelevance. Kudos for your courage, and may all your laughter henceforth be joyful!

Thank you for sharing your story and honest challenge to God’s people, every single one of us. I have always deeply loved and appreciated your spirit, your heart, your passion, your gifts, and your friendship. I regularly grieve that your gifts and passion could not find a fully welcomed home in the Covenant as I personally experienced your love and admiration for the Covenant and for God. But I do celebrate that who you have been fully created to be, in every way, is respected, honored and utilized in your Episcopalian home. May the river started here become a strong current for change, a change that expands hearts and gives each a purer view of one another through God’s eyes. I will be praying about what more I can do to be a part of that change, for me, for my friends, for our beloved faith community. With great love and respect to you my friend….

It amazes me how many of us were suffering in isolation and silence back in our North Park days. Imagine if we had all been able to be open with our self-realization back then, what a support and help we could have been to one another. So much pain could have been avoided. Bless you in your new post.

Thank you for your honest, thoughtful words. I, too, remember sharing much laughter with you during your NPC days. Our adjacent offices, me as Director of Student Services, and you as VP of the Student Association, afforded many of those opportunities! Looking back, I wish I had had the courage to engage in more honest conversation with you. But our friendship remains! May God richly bless you in your new job in San Francisco. I count you as one of the Covenant’s greatest losses, sadly for a reason that absolutely makes no difference. The peace of Christ to you.

A wonderful post. I am glad our paths crossed 8 years ago and how timely that our posts on this blog were one right after the other. I lost touch when you moved to D.C. but sounds like you are doing well and excited to hear you are moving to San Fran with your spoouse! Hope all is well!

I have had the pleasure of knowing you at North Park College and Seminary. I have witnessed first hand the gifts God has given to you in music, ministry, leadership…I also have memories of funny moments shared in conversations. I’m sorry that some of that laughter was actually coming from a painful place. There were conversations regarding identity that unfortunately never took place. I thank you for your courage in sharing your story. God has indeed been glorified in your life and I look forward to seeing what this new place of ministry holds.
